Alchemy of Souls Season 2 Ending Explained: Does Lee Jae-Wook K-Drama Have a Happy or Sad Ending?

Alchemy of Souls season 2 premiered a few months after the first season culminated in 2022. The Netflix fantasy romance K-drama features Lee Jae-Wook and Go Youn-Jung in lead roles.

In the first season, the lead female actress is Jung So-Min, who plays Naksu/Mu-Deok. It ends with her jumping off the cliff after stabbing Jang Uk. However, two women pull her out of the lake, ending the first installment on a cliffhanger.

Alchemy of Souls season 2 introduces Go Youn-Jung as Jin Bu-Yeon. Later, it is revealed that she is Naksu, who was saved in season 1. While viewers did receive a sad ending the first time, the second installment ends on a happy note.

Alchemy of Souls Season 2 Episode 10 recap: Lee Jae-Wook & Go Youn-Jung choose duty over love

Alchemy of Souls season 2, episode 10 (finale) begins with the reunion of Jang Uk (Lee Jae-Wook) and Bu-Yeon (Go Youn-Jung). Previously, the assembly of mages demanded the removal of ice stone from Jang Uk, resulting in his death. Bu-Yeon tells the elderly group that he must kill one soul shifter.

When Jang Uk appears in front of the assembly, they relay her message to him. He announces that he will obey Bu-Yeon’s order. For context, Bu-Yeon is the last soul shifter; however, she manipulates the assembly with her orders. Hence, episode 10 sees Jang Uk and Bu-Yeon reuniting at the fantasy place called Danhyanggok.

The couple spends quality time together, thinking they will soon have to choose duty over love. Master Lee Cheol further helps the two get married officially. After spending a few hours as husband and wife, Bu-Yeon shows Jang Uk the inevitable destruction caused by the firebird egg relic. Meanwhile, Jin Mu gathers the assembly of mages who betray the royal mage families and tag along with Jin Mu to unleash the firebird.

As Jang Uk has already seen the future, he and Bu-Yeon use their powers to stop the destruction. The couple part ways as the solution to protect everyone. It also involves the death of Naksu Bu-Yeon. However, the soul of the little blind girl trapped inside Bu-Yeon lets the latter live as a powerful mage.

Alchemy of Souls Season 2 ending: Did Lee Jae-Wook & Go Youn-Jung end up together?

Towards Alchemy of Souls Season 2 ending, Jang Uk (Lee Jae-Wook) and Bu-Yeon (Go Youn-Jung) save everyone. 

Married, Park Jin and Kim Do-Joo babysit the twins of Park Dang-Gu and Jin Cho-Yeon. While the young couple has twin boys, Cho-Yeon’s mother, Jin Ho-Gyeong, insists they have a girl so she can take over the Jin family. Meanwhile, Seo Yul becomes the Jeongjingak in charge and introduces a mage selection process. Things also turn positive for Crown Prince Go Won and Lady Heo.

Alchemy of Souls Season 2 ends with Jang Uk and Bu-Yeon standing on top of the tree at Danhyanggok. They are happily married and are on a quest to capture the evil souls that escaped from the Jin family’s relic cave. The final scene shows the couple facing a monster when Jang Uk comes before Bu-Yeon and says, “Stay right by my side.”

Overall, the second season has a happy ending for all the characters. Both installments are available to stream on Netflix.
