Physical: 100 Season 2: Who Is Kim Dong-Hyun?

After the massive success of Physical: 100 Season 1, the creators of the show are returning for Physical: 100 Season 2 – Underground. The South Korean reality series on fitness features one hundred contestants who participate in a series of grueling games. For season 1 as well as season 2, Jang Ho-Gi serves as the creator of the Netflix show. The winner of the show, who beats all the 99 contestants while facing different difficult challenges, wins a huge prize money of 300 million won (about $250,000). So far, among all of the participants of Season 2, Kim Dong-Hyun has already garnered a lot of attention.

For the unversed, CrossFit athlete and snowboarder Woo Jin-Yong won Physical: 100 season 1. Meanwhile, this year’s season will see a different set of contestants, including MMA artists, swimmers, singers, actors, cross-fitters, athletes, and more.

Meanwhile, Kim Dong-Hyun is grabbing a lot of attention in this season of the reality show. Here is all you need to know about this contestant of Physical: 100 Season 2 – Underground.

Physical:100 Season 2: Kim Dong-Hyun is a retired South Korean MMA fighter

Born on November 17, 1981, Kim Dong-Hyun is a retired South Korean mixed martial artist. He is the first Korean UFC fighter with the highest number of wins in South Korea. Dong-Hyun got signed in UFC after he fought in the Japanese promotion DEEP and the South Korean promotion Spirit MC. His nickname is Stun Gun, but a lot of his fans call him Maemi. Maemi means Cicada in Korean. He got this name due to his fighting style, as it matches with a Cicada on a tree. He likes to take his opponent to the ground, grapples them, and never lets them escape.

A few days back, he shared a series of pictures on his Instagram handle from the set of Physical: 100 season 2’s watch party. In the photos, Dong-Hyun posed with the posters and gave some glimpses from inside. He is already creating quite a buzz among the viewers by showcasing his stamina and intelligence in the grueling games of Physical: 100.

Apart from this series, Kim Dong-Hyun has also participated in other Korean reality shows, including Law of the Jungle, The Great Escape, DoReMi Market, Steel Troops, and The Return of Superman. Not only in reality series, but the mixed martial artist has also featured in K-dramas. In 18 Again, he played a guest role as a self-defense trainer, and in Vampire Prosecutor 2, he played a guest role in one of the episodes.

Up until July 26, 2018, Kim Dong-Hyun was ranked at 15 in the official UFC welterweight rankings. But he is now unranked because of his inactivity (2020). However, he is one of the most powerful and dangerous contestants in the show Physical: 100 Season 2. He is also in group 1: The Warriors.

Will he win the show? Well, only time can tell, as it will depend on how he plays in the game through all the rounds.
