After months of waiting, Season 4 of AMC’s critically acclaimed cop drama is confirmed to be heading to Netflix soon. The show has consistently earned high scores and favorable reviews with each installment. It follows Navajo Tribal Police officers investigating mysterious crimes while confronting personal trauma.
Dark Winds Season 4 sets Netflix premiere date
Dark Winds Season 4 will begin streaming on Netflix from Saturday, July 4, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix). It originally aired on AMC and AMC+, wrapping up the season on April 5, 2026. The first free seasons are already available on Netflix.
The show is based on Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee novel series. Vince Calandra created the show for AMC, though he was replaced by John Wirth for Season 2 onward. Furthermore, George R. R. Martin serves as one of the executive producers.
Set in the 1970s, Dark Winds centers on three Native American Navajo Tribal Police officers, Joe Leaphorn, Bernadette Manuelito, and Jim Chee, as they investigate a series of violent crimes in the region. As the officers dig deeper into the cases, they are exposed to dark secrets and personal traumas.
The show’s cast features Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon, Jessica Matten, Deanna Allison, and Betty Ann Tsosie, among others.
Dark Winds premiered on AMC on June 12, 2022. Subsequent seasons arrived in 2023, 2025, and 2026, respectively. Moreover, Season 1 adapted Hillerman’s third novel, Listening Woman, with elements from book 4, People of Darkness, which continued into Season 2. Meanwhile, Season 3 combined books 2 and 16: Dance Hall of the Dead and The Sinister Pig, while the latest season adapted The Ghostway.
The show holds a perfect 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, its user score stands at 75%. On IMDb, it has a score of 7.7/10, based on over 30K user votes.
Ahead of the Season 4 premiere, AMC renewed Dark Winds for Season 5. It will reportedly feature eight episodes and will be filmed in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
