Love Song for Illusion episode 16 recap & spoilers: Park Ji-Hoon’s Sajo Hyeon is alive

In the Love Song for Illusion finale (episode 16) episode, Park Ji-Hoon’s Ak-Hee wakes up after killing Sajo Hyeon in their mind space. Soon, the news reaches Queen Geum Hwa, who is devastated but stays calm because of her unborn child. But things take an ugly turn when Ak-Hee gives away his throne to Sajo Yung.

Sajo Yung is thrilled when he sees Ak-Hee with the royal stamp. For context, the two earlier made a deal that he would help Ak-Hee to kill Sajo Hyeon, and in return, Ak-Hee would sign the transfer of his throne.

Before putting a stamp, Ak-Hee mentions that Yeon Wol may not leave the palace with him. Sajo Yung seems to have prepared a solution to this issue as well. In a brief encounter with Yeon Wol, before he met with Ak-Hee, he accepts her rejection of his proposal. She, instead, states that she will go with Ak-Hee to kill him. With this assurance, Sajo Yung calls Yeon Wol in his meeting with Ak-Hee. As soon as the latter is about to sign the petition, Geum Hwa’s father attempts to put Sajo Yung behind bars for the murder of the former king. However, things do not go his way, and he and his daughter end up in prison.

After this incident, Park Ji-Hoon’s character’s true identity is revealed. He is not Ak-Hee but is Sajo Hyeon. During their fight in the mind space, the alter-personality stabs the king, but it doesn’t work on him because he is human, and the attack doesn’t work in their subconscious world. Love Song for Illusion episode 16 shows that Yeon Wol and Sajo Hyeon have planned a fake situation to make Sajo Yung confess his crimes. The king’s trick works towards the end, and Sajo Yung is given a death sentence.

Love Song for Illusion ending: Did Park Ji-hoon & Hong Ye-Ji end up together?

The ending of Love Song for Illusion’s finale features many twists and turns. When Sajo Yung is about to get executed, he announces that Yeon Wol’s mother is alive. Hong Ye-Ji’s character rushes to the scene and demands to know the truth.

Meanwhile, King Sajo Hyeon realizes it to be Sajo Yung’s trick, so he runs to save her. With the help of his mother, Sajo Yung manages to attack Yeon Wol with a poisonous needle. Filled with rage, the king throws a sword at Sajo Yung, who then dies on the spot. Sajo Hyeon cries out in agony as Yeon Wol lies unconscious in his arms.

Seeing her injured, Ak-Hee breaks free and brings Yeon Wol into their mind space. He plans to keep her there forever with him. But fails to do so as Yeon Wol and Sajo Hyeon’s love for each other defeats Ak-Hee, who is born out of greed. Hence, the lead characters end up together in Love Song for Illusion episode 16.

Overall, the series ended on a happy and satisfying note. Viewers can watch the KBS K-drama on Viki.
