Like Flowers in Sand Ending Explained: Does Jang Dong-Yoon’s K-Drama Have a Happy or Sad Ending?

Like Flowers in Sand aired episode 12 (finale) on Netflix and ENA on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. Starring Jang Dong-Yoon as Kim Baek-Du and Lee Joo-Myoung as Oh Du-Sik, this K-drama is a sports crime romance series.

In episode 11, Du-Sik, Baek-Du, and their friends get closer to finding out the real murderer. The ending showed the culprit confronting Mi-Ran (Kim Bo-Ra) and asking to give the evidence. 

The final episode begins with the killer’s face revelation. He corners Mi-Ran at her cafe and confesses to his crimes before trying to kill her. Like Flowers in Sand episode 12 spoilers: Lee Joo-Myoung catches the killer

In Like Flowers in Sand episode 12, Jang Dong-Yoon’s Baek-Du and Lee Joo-Myoung’s Du-Sik discover that the killer is the town’s rice cake shop owner Lee Gyeong-Mun. He killed Chil-Seong as well as Mi-Ran’s father 20 years ago.

After saving Mi-Ran, the group of friends try to track Gyeong-Mun but he is on the run. The episode further shows an arrest warrant circulating the nation. Du-Sik returns to Seoul and begins to look for the culprit with her team of police officers. Meanwhile, Baek-Du trains for his next championship.

Before his match, Du-Sik visits Baek-Du, assuming that he will stop her from moving back to Seoul. But he tells her to achieve her dream as she always wanted to be a detective/cop. He requests her to attend his championship tournament without fail and answer his love confession.

On the day of the match, Baek-Du is confident that he will win but expects Du-Sik on the stand cheering for him. In Seoul, Lee Joo-Myoung’s character thinks of asking her captain for a day off to attend the match. But at that moment Min Hyeon-Uk comes with intel on the runaway killer Gyeong-Mun. Hence, Du-Sik misses the game.

At the tournament, Baek-Du reaches the finale. He has to face his old friend Lim Dong-Seok, to whom he lost his last tournament. It was a tie in the first four rounds. During the final round, Bank-Du looks in the crowd for Du-Sik but cannot find her. This time, he doesn’t let her absence affect his game and hence, wins the championship. On the other hand, Du-Sik catches the killer.

Like Flowers in Sand ending: Lee Joo-Myoung answers Jang Dong-Yoon’s love confession

In Netflix‘s Like Flowers in Sand finale, Jang Dong-Yoon’s Baek-Du mentions Du-Sik in his interview on national television. While his town celebrates his win, he spends time at Du-Sik’s house and misses her.

When he comes out of the house, he sees her sitting outside. Baek-Du eventually asks her to respond to his love confession. She finally says, “I like you a lot,” making Baek-Du happy. The two share a heart-fluttering kiss.

Meanwhile, their friends wait for them at Mi-Ran’s cafe. Cho Seok-Hui talks about how each of them achieved their dreams that they mentioned during homework in school. While they remember each of their wishes, they cannot recall Baek-Du’s. At that time, he and Du-Sik enter the cafe.

Cho Seok-Hui asks him about the dream but he says it is a secret. Cho Seok-Hui notices something on Baek-Du’s lips and begins teasing the couple. The Like Flowers in Sand ending shows the friends having fun in each other’s company as they used to have in childhood. It appears it is what BAek-Du’s dream was — to spend time with friends in the future.

Overall, K-drama Like Flowers in Sand has a happy ending for all the characters. All 12 episodes are available on Netflix.
