ComingSoon is excited to debut the teaser trailer for She’s Nonbinary, which gives a look at Jess McLeod’s short film.
McLeod wrote, directed, and starred in She’s Nonbinary. It debuts today as part of Tribeca’s Love Fictionally Shorts Program and is being adapted into a full-length movie. Follow-up showings at Tribeca will take place on June 8, 13, and 14, with subsequent showings at Dances with Films and Raindance later this month.
“She’s Nonbinary sees Max and their cisgender boyfriend Jake as they spiral into a top-surgery induced identity crisis,” says the official description.

McLeod recently starred in the action movie Normal with Bob Odenkirk, who served as an executive producer on She’s Nonbinary. Also serving as EP is acclaimed director Jane Schoenbrun, who worked with McLeod on Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. They will also appear in Season 2 of AMC’s The Audacity after being upped to a series regular.
ComingSoon recently spoke with McLeod about their role in Normal. “I was just surprised to find a character like this in a script like this. I feel like I was really excited by the ways that they were playing with the genre and reinventing it in some ways,” said McLeod. “I thought that was really fun. I did a lot of research about trans people in the American military, and I watched this really great documentary called Trans Military. It’s a piece of representation that I haven’t seen a lot of, and I thought that was really exciting.”
She’s Nonbinary is produced by Respectfully Productions Inc and Purghart Productions Inc. Producers are McLeod, Ering Purghart, and Eva Tavares. Sydney Bunning was the director of photography, while Mia Oberholzer was the production designer, and Katherine Kadler served as intimacy coordinator.
