Im Si-Wan’s Boyhood K-Drama: Everything You Need to Know

Im Si-Wan’s new drama Boyhood (also known as Once Upon a Boyhood) is a highly anticipated and much-awaited South Korean series. The comedy K-drama is set in the 80’s and revolves around friendship and school union.

Si-Wan essays the role of Jang Byeong-Tae, a high school student in Onyang, South Chungcheong Province. After being bullied in his old school, he moves to a new neighborhood and high school. He expects his life to be the same but things change when his new schoolmates assume he is the popular fighter, White Tiger.

Boyhood cast, plot & more

In Boyhood K-drama, a high school student Jang Byeong-Tae is bullied, and with no courage to fight back, he finds a way to avoid his bullies whenever possible. Just when he gets used to his routine at the school, his family decides to move to a new place in Buyeo. He enrolls in a new high school, Buyeo Agricultural High School. Byeong-Tae fears that he will have to go through the same trauma once again in a new setting. 

Meanwhile, a rumor spreads in Byeong-Tae’s new school. It is about a guy who is apparently the best fighter in the province and is nicknamed the White Tiger. He is supposedly set to transfer to that school. Byeong-Tae arrives at his new school in a police van on his first day. The students assume he is the White Tiger.

Byeong-Tae initially finds it hard to believe that his new schoolmates want to befriend him. Soon, he realizes the confusion but chooses not to correct anyone. He forms his own group consisting of three friends — Park Ji-Young with the nickname black spider, Jung Kyeong-Tae is a good fighter, and Kang Sun-Hwa, a popular female student.

The youth drama also deals with the lives of farmers in the 80’s and has a suspenseful storyline. The main cast of Boyhood includes Im Si-Wan as Jang Byeong-Tae, Lee Sun-Bin as Park Ji-Young, Lee Si-Woo as Jung Kyeong-Tae, and Kang Hye-Won as Kang Sun-Hwa.

Im Si-Wan’s new drama Boyhood release date and time

This Lee Myung-Woo-directed new K-drama will premiere on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 8.00 p.m. KST on Coupang Play. It may also be available on Viki. Boyhood will consist of 10 episodes airing one every Friday.

According to My DramaList, the synopsis of the comedy youth drama reads, “Set in the backdrop of the mid-to-late 1980s, the drama tells the story of students at an agricultural high school in Chungcheong Province.”

It adds, “Jang Byung Tae is a small and weak boy living in Onyang in South Chungcheong Province. He is at the bottom of the school’s social ladder so he transfers to the neighboring Buyeo Agricultural High School. There, he faces an unexpected incident that becomes a turning point in his life.”

The network has released many promising trailers and photos teasing a great storyline and an amazing star cast. This Korean series’ main lead Im Si-Wan’s drama list includes Run On, Summer Strike, Unlocked, Hell is Other People, and Emergency Declaration. The 34-year-old actor is now all set to play the role of a high school student in Boyhood.
