Imran Khan Confirms Divorce With Avantika Malik

Following the buzz surrounding his comeback and upcoming projects, Imran Khan recently made a public announcement confirming his divorce.

In a recent interview with Vogue India, the actor revealed that he and his wife, Avantika Malik, split up in 2019. He further shared that he has been dating Lekha Washington. Khan said, “The speculation that I’m romantically involved with Lekha Washington is true. I’m divorced and have been separated since February 2019.”

In 2011, Avantika Malik and Imran Khan tied the knot and also have a daughter named Imara. Until recently, the couple remained silent about the rumours of their breakup, which started circulating in early 2019. Previously, Avantika’s mother, Vandana, told In.com, “We all read the news and let me tell you that there’s no such thing. There are some differences, which will be sorted anyway.”

Imran took to social media to end the rumors about his relationship. The actor also addressed the negative comments towards his now girlfriend, Lekha Washington. He said, “There’s this narrative of Lekha being a homewrecker, which infuriates me because not only is it misogynistic, but it also takes away my agency as an individual.”

He added, “Lekha and I grew close during the lockdown, a year and a half after I had been separated from Avantika. It was almost a year after she had separated from her partner, not husband as it has been widely reported.”

Lekha Washington is known for her work in Tamil and Telugu cinema. She gained recognition as a sculptor in 2002, after which she turned to theatre and starred in Chennai-based stage plays. She also gained prominence as a video jockey with SS Music before moving onto the silver screen.

The actress’ breakthrough role was in the Tamil film Jayamkondaan (2008), where she portrayed the role of an independent estranged sister. In 2010, she starred in three diverse films across different languages.
