Why is Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 Releasing on a Sunday?

Salman Khan‘s Tiger 3 is probably the only film that’s releasing on a Sunday instead of the usual Friday. However, there’s a strategic reason behind it.

Yash Raj Films, the production house behind Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, are releasing the film on Sunday, November 12, 2023. The latest instalment in Aditya Chopra’s YRF Spy Universe stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Emraan Hashmi. The film takes place after the events of Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), War (2019), and Pathaan (2023).

Older reports state that Tiger 3 was always slated for release on Diwali 2023. But after releasing the trailer, the studios revealed that the film’s exact release date is a Sunday.

Check out the trailer for the film:

Tiger 3 release date: Why is Salman Khan’s film not releasing on November 10, Friday?

Maneesh Sharma directs the film, which will release in three languages – Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. It will be available in formats like IMAX 2D, 4DX 2D, PVR P[XL], DBOX, ICE and 4DE Motion.

Looking at past film releases in the YRF Spy Universe, the studios should have scheduled Tiger 3 for a Friday or even a Wednesday release. Like Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, released on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, which allowed the film to gain a great kickstart at the domestic box office.

As per reports, the production house talked about their decision through a press note. It stated, “Complex release window this Diwali has prompted YRF to devise a strategic and unique release plan. 2023 is the year of ‘Adhik Maas,’ which has led to complications regarding festival dates. This year, Monday, November 13, is New Moon/Amavasya and the Govardhan Pooja/Gujarati New Year falls on November 14. Bhai Dooj is on November 15, giving the film an extended run in this crucial holiday period, which will aid in collections through the week.”

This unique release strategy by YRF has thus allowed MCU’s The Marvels to enjoy a two-day window since Salman Khan films has a higher chance to beat other films at the box office due to his dedicated and larger fanbase in India.

Tiger 3 runtime, cameos and more about Salman Khan’s upcoming movie

Tiger 3 is just four days away from its highly anticipated release, and the makers just announced a new runtime of the action-thriller. Latest reports state that the filmmakers have added extra footage of about two minutes and 22 seconds to the film’s final cut. Tiger 3’s runtime now stands at 2 hours and 36 minutes.

The reports state, “Since the censor process was already completed on October 27, the producers, Yash Raj Films, had to once again request CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) to pass the additional scene. The CBFC did so on November 6. The run time of Tiger 3 is now 156 minutes (2 hours 36 minutes), up from the earlier duration of 2 hours and 33 minutes.”

Tiger 3 will also follow the events of Hrithik Roshan’s War and Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. Fans can expect cameo appearances from both Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan. Reports suggest that the scene with Hrithik’s Kabir will be around 2 minutes 22 seconds. It will feature Kabir along with Colonel Luthra.

Aside from this, director Maneesh Sharma recently revealed that Salman Khan will have a 10-minute entry in the film. He said, “Bunch of talented and enthusiastic minds – Some of our best action, stunts, grips and effects people came together to craft a 10 minute block that does justice to Tiger’s entry. An entry that does Tiger justice. This intro sequence is a highlight of the film and which includes an exciting action sequence that reminds Bhai’s fans exactly how cool Tiger is.”

Watch Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 in theatres this Diwali, i.e., November 12, 2023.
