SHOCKing Sonnets: Deep Inside THE NEON DEMON

SHOCK’s resident poet Nigel Parkin pays tribute to Nicolas Winding Refn’s THE NEON DEMON with these SHOCKing Sonnets.

1 – Dark
(Jack)

Welcome to my darkness, Jesse. Stand still.
Let me look at you. Your reluctance is
Very appealing. That’s what we all want.
It’s what I need to capture. That fragile,
Uncertain look in your perfect blue eyes,
An innocence that people will just want
To possess, to crush. I’ll give it to them.
I am God, shaping you in golden clay,
Sculpting my masterpiece. You feel my hands
Pressing that delicate throat and you know
How easily I could silence you, how
Cruelly I could shatter you. But do
Not fear me. Fear only yourself. When I
Make you shine the darkness will be complete.
