RABID remake gets a double-director in The Soska Sisters.
VARIETY reports that AMERICAN MARY’s Jen and Sylvia Soska, the “Twisted Twins” will be remaking maverick Canadian horror legend David Cronenberg’s second feature film: 1977’s RABID!
From the VARIETY feature:
“John Videttes Somerville House Releasing has entered into a joint venture with Paul Lalonde and Michael Walker to produce a feature film and original TV series based on the 1977 Canadian horror film.”
Wait…a film AND a TV series? Of RABID?!?
The classic Cronenberg body horror shocker cast now deceased porn legend Marilyn Chambers as a kind of “Typhoid Mary” who, after an experimental surgery goes awry, develops an asshole in her armpit, in which a bloodsucking phallus pops out. Said phallus then pumps into a human host and pumps out their blood, turning the victims into mindless vampire/zombies.
The work of David Cronenberg is legendary and Rabid is much more than just a horror movie, the Soskas said. The real message of his film is powerful, and even more pivotal as we look at the world around us today. Its an honor to be involved in this love letter to his original, which we handle with thesame respect as Paul Schraders CAT PEOPLE, Alexandre Ajas THE HILLS HAVE EYES and John Carpenters THE THING.”
We do like that The Soska’s are name-checking Schrader’s CAT PEOPLE…
The addition of Jen and Sylvia Soska to the team is a real coup, Lalonde said. When youre remaking a classic horror film like Rabid, you have to make sure you dont compromise when it comes to the director. The Soskas are among the hottest young directors in the horror genre and I couldnt be happier with our choice.
Filming will take place in the summer in Canada.
