Guillermo del Toro tapped to bring his TROLLHUNTERS to Netflix

Genre giant tapped to bring TROLLHUNTERS to Netflix.

Variety reported this morning that Netflix and DreamWorks Animation are set to expand their animated series’ wing and that genre film poet and trendsetter, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, will be adapting his illustrated novel TROLLHUNTERS as part of the package.

The TROLLHUNTERS novel was a co-production with author Daniel Klaus and had been originally planned as a feature film. But a series version makes more sense in order to fully realize the book’s universe.

The studio said that TROLLHUNTERS “will unleash a new, fantastical world wrapped around two best friends who make a startling discovery beneath their hometown.”

The Netflix-DWA pact deal extends the rights of current original series airing on the streaming giant. It also expands the deal to include  second-window rights for the series around the world, outside China.

Outside of TROLLHUNTERS the studio also aims to revive beloved Japanese giant robot romper VOLTRON: DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE.

Sounds good to us!
