The Women of The Green Inferno

Have you ever wanted to change the world? Director Eli Roth’s new film, The Green Inferno tackles that question head on when a group of college students led by Justine and Alejandro decide to do more than just blog about the impending destruction of a tribe’s native habitat in the Amazon. Instead, they leave behind the relatively safe confines of New York City and travel into the very heart of the South American jungle!

One plane crash later, Justine and her friends soon find themselves on the menu of the same tribe that they came to save. That’s right, this tribe still practices cannibalism and all the good intentions in the world won’t save the “slacktivists” from what comes next.

Ahead of the long awaited release of The Green Inferno on Friday, September 25, Shock Till You Drop is putting the spotlight on four of the leading ladies from the movie. Perhaps one of them will be the “final girl,” assuming that anyone will get out of Eli Roth’s new movie alive!

Lorenza Izzo

Rising star Lorenza Izzo has the one of the leading roles of The Green Inferno. She plays Justine, the daughter of a United Nations official who eagerly embraces the trip to the Amazon to save the tribe. Whether Justine will ever return home remains to be seen. Izzo is a Chilean model who broke into acting in 2011. The Green Inferno was actually one of Izzo’s first major film roles before she went on to star in Sex Ed and The Stranger.

Izzo also has a long history with Roth, having co-starred with him in Aftershock; guest starred in Roth’s Netflix original series, “Hemlock Grove”; and starred in Knock Knock, Roth’s next horror film which will be released on October 9. Roth also found the best way to keep Izzo in his life: he married her!

“Lorenza has an amazing combination of riveting on-screen presence, incredible natural beauty and a sweetness that makes her sympathetic and likeable,” said Roth. “She has that wide-eyed innocence I needed for Justine, and having put her through the wringer on Aftershock and killing her brutally as the cheerleader Brooke Bluebell in ‘Hemlock Grove,’ I knew she could handle it. But she blew away my expectations. Her performance is superb on all levels.”

Izzo’s next film is Holidays, an upcoming comedy/horror anthology with segments by Kevin Smith, Scott Stewart, and other directors.

Sky Ferreira

In The Green Inferno, Sky Ferreira plays Kaycee, Justine’s roommate who accompanies her on the ill-fated trip to the Amazon. The Green Inferno was actually one of Ferreira’s first major film roles as well. She is primarily known as a singer and songwriter who was discovered on Myspace in 2009. Ferreira was also the opening act of the International Bangerz Tour, and she began filming The Green Inferno just when her music career was really taking off.

According to Roth, Ferreira was so focused on her role in The Green Inferno that he had no idea that her single, “Everything is Embarrassing,” was named Pitchfork’s best song of the year. “You’d never have known it,” said Roth. “She didn’t say anything. I found out through Twitter.”

Roth added that “Sky and Lorenza are close friends so the onscreen chemistry really worked…They’re very different—Lorenza’s more reserved while Sky’s definitely a rock star. She has the intensity of someone you’d see in a Larry Clark or Harmony Korine film, and it was fun to cast her against type. She’s also an excellent actress.”

Ferreira’s next movies are Elvis & Nixon and The Trust.

Magda Apanowicz

If you’re a fan of sci-fi TV series, then there’s a good chance that you’ll recognize Magda Apanowicz. She had a starring role in the “Battlestar Galactica” prequel series, “Caprica,” and recurring roles in “Continuum” and “Kyle XY.” She has also made guest appearances in “Holliston,” “The Andromeda Strain,” “Bionic Woman,” and “Robot Chicken.”

For The Green Inferno, Apanowicz plays Samantha, another member of the group of college students who travel to the Amazon to help save the tribe.

Kirby Bliss Blanton

Kirby Bliss Blanton may not be as well known as her co-stars in The Green Inferno, but she’s such a stunning beauty and she’s probably going to be very popular after the movie hits.

Blanton got her start on television in Nickelodeon’s “Unfabulous” and “Zoey 101” before guest starring on “Hannah Montana” opposite Miley Cyrus. Blanton made the tradition to more mature roles in “Entourage” and she also had a two-episode stint on “The Inbetweeners.” But her highest profile role to date was in the comedy movie Project X, in which she played a fictionalized version of herself.

In The Green Inferno, Blanton portrays Amy, another member of Justine’s group who winds up trapped in the Amazon and at the mercy of the tribe that she so desperately wanted to help.

Don’t miss The Green Inferno when it hits theaters on Friday, September 25!
