Hannibal Trailer Reveals Red Dragon; Series Moves to Saturdays

Hannibal Trailer Reveals Red Dragon

Trust us, we’re smiling.

Though concrete news of resuscitation wasn’t shouted from the stage at this weekend’s Hannibal panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the cast and crew did bring a look ahead. The remaining episodes of Season Three might as well constitute a whole other cycle. Switching gears, and jumping years, the series will transition into an adaptation of Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon. The trailer, as evocative and atypical as the show itself, is an exhilarating tease; Fuller’s Hannibal will go out in stunning style, and tell an adaptation worthy of both the novel and Michael Mann’s enduring Manhunter

Unfolding in a series of lush introductions to Francis Dolarhyde, both his obsessions and intent, Hannibal‘s go at Red Dragon looks something to behold, and perhaps more aggressively unnerving than the enrapturing Eurohorror chase we’ve been seeing. Revealed are the tattoo, the teeth, Reba and Will consulting Hannibal in captivity. Hannibal airs Thursdays, and as of now, is currently in its final season. Get on board.

Update: Following a rousing reveal of the Red Dragon and where exactly Hannibal is headed this morning, some dour news has hit  from TVLine about the recently-cancelled series. NBC will be officially moving Hannibal and the Manson-centric Aquarius to Saturday nights for the remainder of their seasons. The ratings of course play a role in both the cancellation and the movie, something sadly confirmed this past weekend at SDCC when the Hannibal panel failed to draw huge. Still, and again, this series is masterwork-stuff, and its final run looks incredible.
