Directed by Matteo Garone (Gomorrah), The Tale of Tales is a baroque anthology starring Vincent Cassel, Salma Hayek, Toby Jones and John C. Reilly. Based on a 17th century collection of fairy tales by author Giambattista Basilemany collected in their earliest, darkest iterationsThe Tale of Tales boasts stunning, gruesome imagery, not least of which includes still-beating organs, oversized creatures and the aforementioned Hayek chewing voraciously on that giant, red heart.
This looks a bloody, beautiful affair and absolute must-see. Word from Cannes was mixed, that the film’s disjointed, unrelated tales weren’t able to match its gorgeous, gory look. A feast for the eyes sounds fine to me.
