Following its Sundance World Premiere, a re-tooled (and revitalizing) finale, and a Stanley Film Festival rebirth, the killer kid comedy Cooties is coming from Lionsgate this September. The teachers take a stand in the first trailer for this elementary school horror show.
Billed as from the creators of Saw and Glee (meaning co-writers Leigh Whannell & Ian Brennan), Cooties is perfectly that. It’s a brightly colored, gory, and genuinely funny piece of work starring Elijah Wood, Alison Pill, Rainn Wilson, Nasim Pedrad, Jack McBrayer and total standout Whannell as a socially deficient educator. Having seen, and really enjoyed Cooties, this first trailer does a terrific job of getting you into the heightened groove of the film, from the transition to the false cheeriness of a pastel school to the neon action-horror of a killer kid plague, to its pro-teacher rallying cry (the kids of this movie are pretty awful even before they’re infected).
Cooties is produced by SpectreVision (producers Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller & Elijah Wood) and directed by Jonathan Milott & Cary Murnion. Lionsgate releases September 18th.
