Ryan Gosling’s Lost River out April 2015

Debuting to divisive reception at last spring’s Cannes, Ryan Gosling’s feature directorial debut Lost River will receive a VOD release from Warner Bros. this April, reports Variety.

Previously described as a horror-fantasy-noir, Lost River stars Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Eva Mendes, Iain De Caestecker, Matt Smith and even Barbara Steele in a story “set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city. Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while Bones, her eighteen-year-old son, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.

The film and its aesthetic sound fascinating, with many reviews equally lauding and deriding Gosling for the clear influence drawn from the likes of Lynch, Jodorowsky and frequent collaborator Nicolas Winding Refn. Unfortunately, whatever the result, those references mean Lost River is likely best experienced on a big screen and it seems it seldom will be.

Expect more on Lost River as its release is detailed. You can see its lone clip from Cannes, below.
