In August, there were rumblings that Matthew McConaughey was being considered to play Randall Flagg in Josh Boone’s adaptation of The Stand. Now, this outlet is saying that is closer to becoming a reality.
Boone previously helmed The Fault in Our Stars and, recently, the director was quoted as saying Warner Bros. is now looking to get four films based on The Stand. If they wound up landing McConaughey, I can now see why they’d like to get as many films as possible.
Flagg has been a recurring character in much of Kings work, sometimes appearing in different guises, but he first appeared in his 1978 novel The Stand and then became the primary antagonist of his serialized The Dark Tower (which also has been in development to become a feature film or serialized television show).
Jamey Sheridan played the role of the character in the 1994 television mini-series directed by Mick Garris, and Flagg has been brought to the comics in recent years with Marvel adaptations of both King works.
The pic you see here is Berni Wrightson’s interpretation of Flagg. I would love to see this version of him brought to life…
