Earlier this week, I got a chance to join the writer-director of Tusk, Kevin Smith, and its key cast members Justin Long (the man unfortunately turned into a walrus in the film), Genesis Rodriguez (who plays Long’s girlfriend) and Haley Joel Osment (Long’s podcasting pal in the movie).
We sat down to talk about the film’s tonal blend of horror and humor among other topics. With Long, the actor talks in-depth about working in the giant walrus costume and what it was like to be buried in so much makeup. He also shares some great insight into what it’s like working with co-star Michael Parks.
Smith meanwhile explains his intent with the film, the influences he was drawing from and the level of importance his podcast has on the movie.
And, finally, Rodriguez and Osment discuss sharing their scenes with co-star Johnny Depp and what it’s like entering into the cinematic world of Kevin Smith with a film so weird.

Tusk opens in select theaters this Friday from A24. In the film, Long plays a podcaster who sets off to Canada to interview an old man for the show, but he soon comes to learn this elderly chap has sinister plans for him.
