If you had not heard, a new “Amityville Horror” film is complete. Director Franck Khalfoun (Maniac) spent the first half of the year lensing the latest production – inspired by the ominous abode at 112 Ocean Avenue – for Dimension Films and Blumhouse Productions.
While plot details are scarce, we know Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cameron Monaghan and Bella Thorne star as a family who move into the Long Island home.
Things have been rather quite on the project, which was known as Amityville, however, I’ve learned that the film is now going to be called Amityville: The Awakening (borrowing a subtitle from Omen IV: The Awakening, I see).
We’re also close to seeing a trailer in anticipation of the film’s January 2, 2015 release. No exact word yet as to when that trailer will drop, but I’m told it’s very soon.
The last film, a remake of The Amityville Horror, was released in 2005 and starred Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George and Chloe Grace Moretz. It opened in the month of April and grossed an estimated $65 million domestically and over $100 million worldwide.
The first adaptation of Jay Anson’s novel – an account of the Lutz family’s time at 112 Ocean Avenue – came in 1979 and was followed by Amityville II: The Possession, Amityville 3-D and five more installments until the remake came along.
