When I was approached by The Orchard last year to enter into a partnership to help curate, acquire, promote and release horror films, I looked forward to the titles we were going to take out theatrically. Earlier this year, a movie – written and directed by Ivan Kavanagh – furiously grabbed my attention when it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. That film was The Canal, a unsettling and mature piece of work that The Orchard fought to acquire and which is now being prepared for a theatrical run this October.
Comic-Con is coming up so I suggested: Why don’t we take the film down to San Diego and show it to the horror fans, give them an early look at a fall release before anyone else gets to see it? The Orchard agreed and now here we are!
