Seventh Son Moves to Universal and Looks for New Date

Just days after Legendary opted out of the Man of Steel sequel to focus on Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, which has a joint distribution deal between Warner Bros. and Paramount, Warner Bros. has decided to allow Legendary to walk away with Sergei (Mongol Bodrov’s adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s Seventh Son, starring Jeff Bridges (as a sorcerer) and Julianne Moore.

The movie has been dropped from its January 17th release date, having just moved there a few months back, and it’s being reported that Universal will step in as a distributor only, the movie having already been fully financed by Legendary.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal hasn’t picked a new release date although they’re essentially creating more time since the movie’s completion in 2012.

Legendary is still involved with Warner Bros’ upcoming releases 300: Rise of an Empire due out March 7 of next year and the reboot of Godzilla, which is out May 16, 2014. THR reports that Legendary are submitting their plans for a Warcraft movie, directed by Duncan (Source Code) Jones to Universal, as well as their plans for a “Hot Wheels” movie, one based on the video game Mass Effect and Cyber, a new movie from Michael Mann starring Chris Hemsworth.
