Let’s put this in perspective, because there are a couple of ways this can go. Some can see this as “they’re remaking Jurassic Park!” But I can assure you, they’re not. That’s not in the cards and never has been (I’ve seen a taste of what they may be cooking up). Or, you can see this as Neill misconstruing the term “reboot.” It’s very possible he just means to say the next story kicks off an all-new story arc with new characters.
So, just keep things in perspective.
Meanwhile, the Poltergeist redo is gaining momentum with Monster House director Gil Kenan on board and there must be some script or casting paperwork floating around town because some folks are getting the details on what’s to come.
According to Moviehole, the redo is actually a bit of a sequel:
Firstly, the Kenan-directed Raimi-produced reboot much like the Evil Dead remake exists in the same world as the previous Poltergeist films. So while it is a reboot of the franchise, its also somewhat of a sequel taking place years after the Freelings were ran out of town.
In one scene in the new film, the kids find some things behind the sliding panel in the attic. Yep, you guessed it they find some of the Freelings possessions, intentionally left behind. Theres the Star Wars bed sheets (from Robbies room), a black-and-white TV set (why, of course!), and some Christmas decorations.
