Shock Interview: Michael Biehn, Jennifer Blanc-Biehn of The Victim

Biehn directed and starred in the film and Blanc-Biehn produced and starred.  After the jump, read about the film’s grindhouse roots, Michael and Jennifer’s time working on both sides of the camera, and Jennifer gives us an update on Among Friends, the feature directorial debut of Danielle Harris.

The Victim will hit DVD and Blu-ray Tuesday, September 18th.  The story goes like this: Annie (Jennifer Blanc) and Mary (Danielle Harris) find themselves in a life and death situation. Annie’s life is put in jeopardy when she witnesses a violent act at the hands of two Sheriff’s Deputies. While fleeing, she stumbles across Kyle (Michael Biehn), a recluse living in the middle of the woods.

Shock Till You Drop: Tell us a little bit about your latest film, The Victim.

Michael Biehn: The Victim is primarily a thriller. A sexploitation thriller!

Shock: Tell us about your character, Kyle.

Biehn: Kyle is a loner, living in the woods and trying to stay off the radar.

Shock: What attracted you to the project?

Biehn: Jennifer really wanted me to write and direct. Also, we had just worked with Xavier Gens on The Divide and he is a true inspiration! Plus, working with Robert [Rodriguez] on Grindhouse and then reading his book – big inspiration.

Shock: The film has been described as a throwback to the days of grindhouse filmmaking. Please tell us a little bit about that.

Biehn: I think it’s the look of the film, its grainy quality, and the vibe that it created. It’s sex, drugs and bad cops!

Shock: As writer/director did you have free reign to make the film you wanted, or did you have to compromise your vision, at any point?

Biehn: The only compromise I had to make was because of budget but I did make the film I wanted. However, I would love to do a Director’s cut of my Director’s cut!

Shock: Did both starring in the film and directing pose any unique challenges?

Biehn: It was a lot of work and I get very intense.

Shock: Do you think that you will ultimately move away from acting to focus on directing?

Biehn: No, I will continue to act but I probably will direct again, but mainly we want to be producing. That’s why BlancBiehn Productions was created from this.

Shock: Tell us a little bit about your character, Annie.

Jennifer Blanc: She is a stripper with a heart. Like a controversial heroin.

Shock: What about the film made you want to be a part of it?

Blanc: I like playing a character that you root for but maybe don’t trust either.

Shock: What does The Victim have in store for horror fans?

Blanc: Sex, exploitation, thrills, twists and plenty of nods to other filmmakers with some Rob Hall special effects thrown in.

Shock: Can you tell our readers anything about your upcoming film, Among Friends?

Blanc: Yes. I produced and star in it for my dear friend Danielle Harris who directed it. My other dear friend Alyssa Lobit wrote and also stars in it. There are definitely some fun surprises in it and we are going to pop up soon at some very cool festivals.
