EXCL: Paco Plaza Hints at Surprising REC: Apocalypse

Plaza tackled the sequel in the director’s chair alone, an agreement he made with creative partner Jaume Balaguero, co-director of REC and REC 2.  Following REC 2, the duo split up their REC duties: Plaza shouldered the threequel, Balaguero, meanwhile, would helm the forthcoming REC 4: Apocalypse.  They would direct the films separately, but remain in contact for consulting purposes.

When we caught up to Balaguero in September last year at Fantastic Fest, he told us, “Part four is going to follow REC 2 – it’s a continuation of that film and picks up immediately after part two.”  Today, Plaza offered up a brief update on the fourth film.

“[Shooting begins] end of this year or early next,” Plaza said.  “Jaume has finished the script, but he would be very upset if I spoiler it or told to much about it.  It’s going to be really surprising and refreshing and it’s going to be great.”

The fourth film, once again, will be a Filmax production.  Hopefully, more details will come forward when the American Film Market rolls around this fall.  Stay tuned for our full interview with Plaza.
