Monsters Sequel Attracts a New Director

Edwards – while rebooting Godzilla for Legendary Pictures – was on board to executive produce and the film was going to introduce audiences to a teacher living in a protected walled city, who has to go into the infected zone to find his long-lost brother, a former military man who is now a Col. Kurtz-esque figure.

If you recall, the original concerned a couple trying to escape Central America, which had been quarantined due to an invasion of alien creatures.

At the time, Vertigo had locked in Brent Bonacorso and Jesse Atlas to helm the sequel, but it appears a new director has been brought on board.

According to Screen Daily, Tom Green (Misfits) is taking the reins and working from a script – entitled Monsters: Dark Continent – by Jay Basu.

Basu penned the film Fast Girls as well as The Dinosaur Project, which concerns a father and son who set out to make a documentary and discover dinosaurs in Africa.  That film is currently in post-production.

No word yet as to when Vertigo aims to roll cameras on the Monsters sequel.  Hopefully, another year won’t pass before another update comes along.
