EXCL: Davis Teams With Severence Scribe for Zombie Film

Silent Night of the Living Dead

Paul Davis, director of Beware the Moon (the American Werewolf in London documentary), tells Shock Till You Drop that he is going to be making his directorial feature debut with a zombie film entitled Silent Night of the Living Dead.

The film will pair him with writer James Moran – of Severance and the forthcoming Cockneys vs. Zombies – to tell the story of a group of locals who hole up in a West Sussex high school on Christmas Eve and have to fend off zombies.

“With this I want to go back to Romero and Fulci in terms of making the zombie scary again,” Davis said. “To help me in that department I have enlisted the special effects make-up talents of recent Academy Award winner Dave Elsey [The Wolfman]. I met Dave, and his wife Lou, on The Wolfman at Pinewood in 2008 and just fell in love with both of them. They’re so talented and so incredibly sweet and adore that they are just utterly besotted with monsters – A couple after my own heart. I came away from that first meeting with them knowing that if and when I made my first monster movie, that I wanted to work with them and was delighted when Dave said yes. Some the ideas we’ve already bounced between us are very exciting and I know that the kind of variety I’m going for with regard to the look of the zombies is exactly what Dave wants to do.”

With the film expected to get underway in the spring of 2012, Davis has also enlisted Osymyso (who worked on Shaun of the Dead) to compose the score.

Next year will also see the release of Davis’ FAB Press book “666 Horror Movies to Die For: The Essential Guide To Screen Terror.” He’ll also be seen as the monster in The Otherside, starring Nick Moran (Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels), hitting the festival circuit in 2012.
