Aspiring horror actors face real frights
Oh, Saw. Your impact on the genre can still be felt. Producers continue to look for “contained” thrillers and filmmakers feel that the best way to tell a terror tale is to trap a bunch of characters in a single location while a sinister “mastermind” pulls their strings.
The latest “inspired” offspring of Saw is Opus from director Micah Levin. Even the official synopsis calls attention to the James Wan film: In the vein of ‘Saw’, we follow eight actors who submit videos to be cast in a horror film, only to discover that the action is all too real. As they are picked off one by one, minds start to wonder if the elusive director is creating his greatest masterpiece yet.
