Splice Director Enters Tunnels Adaptation

Discovers vicious society

While Vincenzo Natali’s Splice is caught in an apparent bidding war, the Cube helmer is lining up his next film: An adaptation of Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams’ best-selling thriller “Tunnels.”

It’s an adaptation of the first installment of the children’s series which tells the story of Will, a 14-year-old boy driven by a fascination of the buried past, who is drawn into a subterranean world after his archaeologist father abruptly goes missing. This hidden civilization, beautiful and unforgiving, is dominated by a sinister, vicious race called the Styx, who have presided over generations of enslaved colonists.

The project is being produced by Ryan Kavanaugh, Mark Canton, Danny Davids and Neil Canton. Simon Sandquist and Joel Bergvall scripted the screenplay.

Horror or Shock-worthy? We’ll see what Natali brings to the table, but it was worth mentioning here. Perhaps this film will pave the way for that High Rise adaptation he’s been yearning to do (read more about that here).
