Jimmy Kimmel announced last month that he’s taking a break from his chat show. He also shared an update on how the show will proceed without his presence. Moreover, he clarified that this summer hiatus is his own decision and not the network’s, subtly referring to the earlier suspension over his remarks on the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

During June 18’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! episode, Kimmel revealed that he’s taking a two-month hiatus from the show “voluntarily.” He said that while he will be away, his show will be handled by various guest stars.
Summer breaks aren’t unusual for Kimmel, who has taken one every year. In 2025, he explained that his contract also included a hiatus clause. He said, “I’m going to be off for the summer. I don’t want to go either; they put it in my contract, I have to go to fat camp every summer. The truth is I’m going to spend the bulk of my summer at the Newark airport this year” (via Deadline). The guest hosts have filled in for him during the break before, too. However, this became challenging in 2023 due to the writers’ and labor strikes.
