Greg Rikaart is known for his role on The Young and the Restless as Kevin Fisher. However, he recently revealed that the opportunity was not supposed to be permanent.
The actor expected that the gig would last only a couple of weeks, and then he would move on to other roles. But his name is still connected after two decades since he joined the soap opera.
Greg Rikaart says Kevin Fisher originally had a “10 or 20-episode arc” on The Young and the Restless
Greg Rikaart recalls that he was not even on a contract when he auditioned for Kevin Fisher on The Young and the Restless in 2003. He says,
“I think I fell just outside of the archetype of what they looked for. And Kevin, particularly when he started, was a little more on the nerdier side and not necessarily a young leading man. Where I got lucky with Kevin was that the role was originally supposed to be for a 10 or 20-episode arc” (via People).
He said it felt like a “win” to do this part because LA was a bit slow at the time, and a two-month stint would have been perfect to pass the time. But what started as a filler job soon turned into something more meaningful.
Kevin Fisher became a fan favorite after Greg Rikaart joined The Young and the Restless. His story arc drew strong opinions from the viewers who loved to hate him.
Then, another turn came that solidified his role further in the soap. Head writer Jack Smith noticed that Rikaart looked similar to Christian LeBlanc, the actor who played Michael Baldwin on The Young and the Restless. Thus, he made them half-brothers. He then connected with LeBlanc, and they would work on their characters together. Rikaart explained,
“Christian was so influential in making sure that we really put in the work, and we would go out to dinner, and we would spend a lot of time trying to figure out what the dynamic was between these two guys” (via People).
