Episode 6, titled “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” follows Hunter Emery’s Deputy Walter Flynn, who suspects a connection to the church in Abby’s case. He sends Sophie O’Neal to Pastor Pete’s residence to question him. Pete denies his involvement in Abby’s case, revealing that the latter isn’t innocent and had her abortion done before her demise. This conversation resonates with Sophie, who suspects he is hiding something troubling.

Later, Pete kidnaps and drugs Nina. While he denied having any involvement in Abby’s case, he remained on the police’s radar. The authorities investigated his relationship with Abby’s friend, Nina, and also discovered that the teen had called Pete before her death. Detective Salazar visits Pete, only to find him abruptly preparing to leave town. She smells vodka and cinnamon gum on his breath, which quickly leads her to suspect that he might be connected to a kidnapping case that had been under investigation months earlier.

Pete learns that Detective Salazar has discovered his dark secret, which leads him to hurriedly leave the town. He is chased throughout the town but is eventually confronted by Deputy Wanda Salazar on the outskirts of Maple Brook. Although the authorities hoped to get him in for questioning, they never got the opportunity. This is because Pete uses a gun to end his life. Upon opening the U-Haul trailer, the officers find out that the missing girls, Nina and Kaycee. They are found distressed but alive.
