While it is not new for Zendaya to end up on the trending section, this time, the actress is dominating the headlines due to the ‘Don’t Forget to Smile’ trend. The meme comes in the wake of the ‘Zendaya Hat Theory’ that has been making the rounds on the internet for a long time.
So, here’s everything you need to know regarding the connection between Zendaya and the ongoing ‘Don’t Forget to Smile’ trend.
Why is ‘Don’t Forget to Smile’ trending?
Ever since the ‘Zendaya Hat Theory’ established its presence on the internet, people have come up with their own renditions of the popular meme.
Some have simply included videos of the Dune actress saying certain phrases set to a famous song in the background. One such meme featured a snippet from Zendaya’s 2011 YouTube video, where she is heard saying, “Yeah, okay! Love you guys! Don’t forget to smile!”

The ‘Don’t Forget to Smile’ trend follows the already popular ‘Zendaya Hat Theory’ that first popped up on the internet back in 2014. It started after the actress sported a giant black hat during her appearance at the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party.
This gave birth to the bizarre and infamous ‘Zendaya Hat Theory’ that suggests that the Hollywood mainstay’s hats carry a deeper and more sinister meaning. Since then, netizens have released customized memes featuring Zendaya under the hat theory banner, including a morphed version of the actress’s 2015 red-carpet interview. The clip saw the Euphoria star sport a glitched smile while answering what her favorite Beyoncé song was.
In accordance, TikToker @thesnakesbloxx even released a clip showcasing Zendaya saying “Don’t forget to smile,” with an Ethel Cain song playing in the background. Many on the internet have since followed suit, using such snippets of the Golden Globe Award winner to create their own memes.
One such user took to Instagram to post a version of the ‘Don’t Forget to Smile’ trend, with “Teachers at the end of the lesson after reading off a PowerPoint instead of teaching,” written on the video.
While there is no defined basis for the aforementioned trend, it continues to generate publicity for the 28-year-old Zendaya.
