Laura Wright’s Carly was sitting so much in recent General Hospital episodes due to a leg injury sustained off-screen.
In a recent Soap Opera Digest interview, Wright said she injured herself playing Pickleball during a singles match.
“I went to run up and I did some weird movement with a backhand,” Wright said. “But I crossed my leg over, and my knee popped out of joint, and back in — it didn’t stay out, it just popped out and back in real quick.”
“Nothing was swollen” according to Wright. However, her leg started feeling “sore.”
The 54-year-old soap veteran then noted that the injury kept her from playing pickleball. Wright, who started wearing a brace, added that she only had issues with “side-to-side motion,” as she could still “walk forward, up and down steps all around.”
Wright then claimed that the injury didn’t “hurt at all,” noting how she went to attend the Indian Wells tennis tournament, where she went “up and down the stairs at the stadium.”
However, Wright’s knee had “popped out again” after returning to work following the tennis tournament.
“Literally, it was some side motion with how I turned my foot and went to step up,” she explained. “I went down and I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ It hurt so bad.” Thus, Wright sat down for the remainder of her scenes.
Unfortunately, Wright worsened her injury with a side motion, despite wearing a brace for her scenes the following day, when she had to film three episodes.
“They just had to change all my blocking [for the cameras] because I was so rattled. I didn’t feel secure in my body,” she shared. “They were like, ‘Just park it on the stool!’ So, if you wanted to know why, for a few episodes, I was sitting on a stool talking to everybody in Carly’s kitchen, that’s why!”
