Ever since the cryptocurrency phenomenon’s inception, Bitcoin has become a global sensation. People all around the world have been trying to identify its creator. Despite extensive research on the topic, little progress has been made in uncovering his name. However, a recently released HBO documentary has claimed to have exposed the creator’s name, who has long been referred to as Satoshi Nakamoto. So, what is the true name of Bitcoin’s original developer?
Here are all the details regarding Satoshi Nakamoto’s proposed identity.
Who is Bitcoin’s creator, Satoshi Nakamoto?
Satoshi Nakamoto is a pseudonym for the creator of Bitcoin. A recent documentary, Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery, revealed Nakamoto’s identity as Peter Todd.
The filmmaker behind Money Electric, Cullen Hoback, reportedly conducted several interviews to reach the aforementioned deduction. He held comprehensive discussions with Adam Back (another candidate rumored to be Satoshi Nakamoto), investor Roger Ver, Bitcoin marketer Samson Mow, as well as Peter Todd. Aside from the said interviews, Hoback also assessed an older Bitcoiner forum to draw his conclusions.
Who is Peter Todd?
The most recent personality rumored to carry Satoshi Nakamoto’s mantle is Peter Todd, a Canadian software developer. Todd serves as an applied cryptography consultant at GitHub.
The Toronto-based engineer graduated from OCAD University in 2011, majoring in a Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Media. After fulfilling his education, Todd spent time in multiple roles, working as the Chief Naysayer at Bitcoin security provider Coinkite. Other positions Todd holds include chief scientist at anonymizing wallet service Dark Wallet and chief scientist at project Mastercoin.
Despite Hoback’s claims, Todd has publicly denied being Satoshi Nakamoto or the real creator of Bitcoin. While addressing the question, Todd laughed off the notion and labeled it “ludicrous.” (via Mint)
Many other developers have also been reported to be the real Nakamoto but to no avail. As such, the actual identity of Bitcoin’s creator remains uncertain at the time of writing.
