Following Penelope‘s recent release on Netflix, fans who enjoyed the series are wondering whether a Season 2 has been confirmed with a release date or timeframe, and is coming out. Developed by Mel Eslyn and Mark Duplass, Penelope revolves around the title character, who unsure of her place in the world, embarks on a journey of self-discovery in the remote wilderness of the Pacific Northwest.
Here’s all the Penelope Season 2 release date information we know so far, and all the details on when it is coming out.
Is there a Penelope Season 2 release date?
Penelope Season 2 does not have an official release date, but it will likely be announced in the future.
Mark Duplass, the series creator, and Netflix are likely still waiting to see how Penelope performs on Netflix over time before deciding whether to greenlight Season 2 or not. Duplass confirmed his intentions of waiting it out in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in May, just several months prior to Season 1’s release.
“Ideally, we see how we do on Netflix. In the event that it’s a blowout success, you might see a bigger scope for season two,” Duplass said. “In the event that it’s a moderate success, we might write it for a smaller scope, but at least we’re in the driver’s seat now as to whether we get to keep making this show.”
However, Duplass acknowledged in a separate interview with IndieWire that if Netflix lost money for Penelope then the chances for Season 2 happening would become slim. “I would be worried they would lose money on it, it gives us a smaller chance to break out in Season 2 if it doesn’t hit,” he said.
