Are Al Roker & Lenny Kravitz Related? Relationship Explained

Singer Lenny Kravitz and veteran weatherman Al Roker are two modern-day juggernauts of the entertainment industry. Kravitz has successfully established his place in Hollywood owing to his talents in music and acting. On the other hand, Roker has served as the weather expert for NBC’s Today for close to three decades. But are the two celebrities bonded by blood?

Here are all the available details regarding the lineage of Lenny Kravitz and Al Roker.

The two stars are related to one another, with Al Roker being the second cousin of the 60-year-old musician.

Kravitz hails from a family that is no stranger to show business. The “Fly Away” singer was born to celebrity parents. His mother, Roxie Roker, was an actress in her heyday. She is majorly known for her role as Helen Willis on the long-running sitcom The Jeffersons. Meanwhile, his father, Sy Kravitz, was a renowned NBC producer. It was his job at the entertainment company that enabled Kravitz to link up with Roxie Roker (via People).

The Hunger Games star shares ancestry with Al Roker on his mother’s side. Roxie Roker’s father, Albert Roker, was cousins with the weatherman’s grandfather, making Kravitz and Al Roker distant relatives. The pair uncovered this connection in 2011 when Kravitz made an appearance on Roker’s on-screen home (via Today).

Commenting on their lineage, Lenny Kravitz said, “We both have Roker. My mother was Roxie Roker, and my grandfather was Albert Roker from the Bahamas. Has to be.” Al Roker also spoke about the newfound connection, sharing, “All I know is I’m going with it. Kids think it’s cool.”

Kravitz is currently working on the release of his latest album, Blue Electric Light. He recently dropped the video for one of his singles, titled “Paralyzed.” Meanwhile, Al Roker continues to shine as the longtime weatherman at Today.
