The Acolyte Villain: Is Amandla Stenberg’s Mae the Main Antagonist?

The Acolyte is an upcoming entry in Disney’s Star Wars franchise and one of the most highly-anticipated TV series of the season. As fans get ready for the show’s June 4 premiere on Disney Plus, there has been widespread speculation about the plot. Even though producers tried to keep the series’ plot strictly under wraps, they don’t seem to have been completely successful. The previously released loglines, clips, and promos hint toward the possible villain of the story. However, a new teaser has seemingly revealed a major spoiler about the main antagonist.

Here is everything you might want to know about the main villain of The Acolyte and whether it is Amandla Stenberg’s Mae.

Is Amandla Stenberg’s Mae the main villain of Star Wars’ The Acolyte?

Yes, Amanda Stenberg’s Mae is most likely to be the villain of the series.

The snippets and clips that Disney has put out over the past few months have given fans some idea about what to expect in The Acolyte. The plot takes place in the High Republic era and follows Sol (Lee Jung-jae), a Jedi Master investigating a series of brutal deaths. In his perilous journey to find the truth, Sol comes face to face with a “dangerous warrior” connected to his “past.”

According to a report by ComicBook, this dangerous warrior is Mae, leading some fans to believe that she might be the villain of the series. However, the latest TV spot for the series indicates that someone besides Mae might be responsible for the murders of several Jedi Masters before inadvertently dropping a major spoiler that once more paints Mae as the villain.

Who is Osha and is she The Acolyte’s villain?

Osha is seemingly Mae’s twin, who probably is not the villain of The Acolyte.

Fans have been speculating for a while that Stenberg plays a pair of twins in The Acolyte. In a recent clip, a character portrayed by Stenberg claims that she didn’t do it, likely referring to the murders. This character could have been passed off as Mae if it weren’t for the since-removed subtitles identifying her as Osha.

In these scenes, Stenberg’s character wears significantly different attire from Mae and appears to have a different personality as well. Interestingly, Mae also seems to be featured on the official poster twice, further supporting the twin theory.

It’s possible that Mae is not Sol’s former padawan, Osha is, as per The Direct. The latter has been on the run from the Republic authorities as she is the prime murder suspect. While Osha grew up under the care of the Jedi, Mae may have learned from the Sith and is likely the villain of The Acolyte.
