The Acolyte’s Original Title Revealed, Creator Thinks Show ‘Succeeded’

Leslye Headland addressed the ongoing discussion surrounding The Acolyte following its cancellation after one season on Disney+. The Star Wars series creator explained why she considers the show a success, while also revealing that it originally carried a different title during development.

The Acolyte had a different title, creator talks Star Wars show’s success

The original title of The Acolyte was The Lost Sister, directly referencing the twin sisters Mae and Osha. The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte, written by Kristin Baver and published by Abrams Books, confirms this information.

Leslye Headland, the creator of the series, quoted as saying, “When we set out to make The Acolyte, I hoped to create a new expression of Star Wars, inventing something to expand on the storytelling I have loved since I was a child. And since it premiered in 2024, the fans of the series have affirmed this: We succeeded.”

The book identifies Qimir, portrayed by Manny Jacinto, as “a secret Sith master.” This ends prior speculation about his status and confirms ties to Sith traditions. Headland explains that the design team took inspiration for Qimir’s mask from Kylo Ren’s helmet. They also referenced the samurai aesthetics behind Darth Vader’s design and visual elements from Rorschach in Watchmen.

Leslye Headland reveals she originally planned to introduce Darth Plagueis at the end of the season. “I had always wanted the end of the season to introduce Plagueis,” she says. “Having him come in in the middle felt like it was going to be too loaded.” She also cites Gollum from The Fellowship of the Ring as an inspiration for the indirect reveal of Plagueis. Headland focused on visual cues such as hand movement and shadowed presentation.

Headland originally planned an alternate ending set just before Yoda’s epilogue. She explains, “As [Vernestra] was leaving [the Galactic Senate Building], she walked out and looked up as Senator Rayencourt said, ‘Welcome to the world of politics.’” The team later removed the scene during editing.

The Acolyte is available for streaming on Disney+.
