Blue Bloods Canceled reason More Seasons tom selleck

Blue Bloods: Why Was It Canceled? Will There Be More Seasons?

Many fans continue to wonder why Blue Bloods was canceled after Season 14. Could there be more seasons in the future? What does Tom Selleck have to say about it? Here’s everything you need to know.

Why was Blue Bloods canceled after Season 14?

Despite being one of CBS’ most popular shows, the network pulled the plug on Blue Bloods after 14 seasons. Its cancelation happened due to the high cost of production despite tough budgetary negotiations.

In late 2023, Deadline revealed that Blue Bloods would end after a two-part Season 14. It was renewed for its current season with the knowledge that the series could end with it. However, the final decision was only taken after the SAG-AFTRA strikes.

CBS asked for budget cuts for the production and the actors’ salaries, which was agreed to by the cast and producers. But with a dip in the viewership ratings across Season 13 and Season 14, and the fact that the show is expensive to produce due to its New York-based filming locations, CBS decided to end the series.

Will there be more seasons of Blue Bloods?

Despite CBS’ decision to cancel Blue Bloods, actor Tom Selleck believes that the network “will come to their senses” eventually and reverse their decision. Selleck, who has played Commissioner Frank Reagan on the show since 2010 told CBS News:

“We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!”

Blue Bloods Season 14 has not ended yet. It began on February 16 and will air its mid-season finale on May 17. Following Episode 10, the final 8 episodes will air on CBS this fall, with the network confirming that the series will air its finale in December.

But whether CBS will decide to go back on its decision and renew Blue Bloods for Season 15 remains to be seen. Comingsoon will provide an update if that happens.
