The ending of the series offers arguably inevitable conclusions to several important characters, including Samuel and Janet. The latter (spoilers warning for those who haven’t watched the finale) even tries to build a life for herself with Alan. However, it is quite clear that they both are miserable in their current circumstances.
Interestingly, there is a post-credits scene in Boat Story. A narrator has been guiding the audience through the plot. It turns out that he is a man named Elias. As the series ends, it is left unclear whether the things the viewers saw in the series were real or part of Elias’ imagination. The ambiguity adds an extra layer of complexity to the plot and is not likely an implication that another season will happen.
