Will There Be a House of Leaves Movie Release Date & Is It Coming Out?

The first novel by American author Mark Z. Danielewski, House of Leaves (2000) unfolds like a story within a story, centering around a documentary film about a family that discovers that their new house is bigger on the inside. Many view the book as unadaptable because of its epistolary and meta-narrative, though speculations about a film have been going around on social media and beyond for years.

Here’s all we know about House of Leaves Movie and whether or not it’s coming out.

Is there a House of Leaves Movie release date?

There is no House of Leaves Movie release date as the film doesn’t seem to have been greenlit yet.

House of Leaves is widely regarded as a modern classic, and the novel’s fans have wondered whether it will ever be adapted into a film or TV show since its publication. In 2018, Mark Z. Danielewski posted on Twitter (now known as X) a link to a pilot script he had developed from his debut novel. However, he clarified that he wrote the script as part of an experiment and had not yet secured any development deal. In 2019, the author also released additional teleplays based on the book on his website and Patreon.

Since then, the buzz about a possible adaptation of House of Leaves, whether in the cinematic or television format, has circulated online. As of February 2024, such a project appears not to be in development. ComingSoon will provide an update if and when the circumstances change.

Why House of Leaves Movie might not be happening

House of Leaves Movie probably isn’t coming out because, as mentioned above, it hasn’t been officially announced yet.

The official synopsis for House of Leaves (the Book) reads:

“Neither Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Will Navidson nor his companion Karen Green was prepared to face the consequences of the impossibility of their new home, until the day their two little children wandered off and their voices eerily began to return another story—of creature darkness, of an ever-growing abyss behind a closet door, and of that unholy growl which soon enough would tear through their walls and consume all their dreams.”
