The meme took off in April 2023, when an X (Twitter) user @koalarolls took to the social media platform to react to the smiling photo shared online by another user @MissGiobaby1. The user then reposted to her own X feed and wrote the following caption:
“he looks like a capybara who made a wish to become human”
This statement led to social media being flooded with various pictures of Glen Powell and a capybara from various users who acknowledged the similarity of the look on Glen Powell’s face and a capybara’s expression.
Glen Powell himself reacted to the capybara meme on two occasions. One time was at an appearance on the Tonight With Jimmy Fallon talk show.
