Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 1 Ending Explained

What happened at the end of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 1?

Towards the end, Percy fought and defeated a minotaur before ending up at the camp.

In their car ride towards the campsite, Grover the Satyr revealed that Camp is a sanctuary for half-bloods. It is where they go to learn about themselves and the world on the other side of the magical mist. Unfortunately, their car gets attacked by a Minotaur, resulting in an accident.

Using Percy’s jacket, his mom tries to lure the Minotaur away while letting Grover and Percy escape. However, looking at his mother taking on the Minotaur, Percy attacks the mythical creature with the pen-sword that he got from Mr. Brunner. He manages to take down the monster but ends up unconscious.

Then he wakes up looking at several murmuring half-bloods and Chiron the Centaur, who welcome him at the camp. Before revealing the Centuar’s face, the episode comes to an end. But following the credits comes a sneak peek into episode 2, which reveals that the Centaur was none other than Percy’s teacher, Mr. Brunner. By giving him the Pen-sword, aka Anaklusmos/Riptide, Chiron guided him on his journey to the camp.

Did Percy’s mom die in Episode 1?

After bidding farewell to her son, Percy’s mom disintegrated on screen while battling the Minotaur, implying that she had died in Episode 1. However, things may not be as simple.

Since Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a fantasy series, disintegration in the hands of a mythical creature may not necessarily mean permanent death. Even though episode 1 implied that Percy’s mom had died, she can return in future episodes in more than just flashback sequences.

Spoilers for what happened in the books follow. Read further if you wish to find out about what happens in the upcoming episodes.

Disney+’s Percy Jackson season 1 is based on the first book of Rick Riordan’s fantasy novel series, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, which was published in 2005. It also saw Percy’s mom dying at the hands of a Minotaur. But later, when Hades realized that Percy was not the lightning thief, he sent Sally Jackson back home to reunite with Percy.

Since the books are being followed very closely in the live-action show, we could expect something similar to happen in the upcoming episodes.

For more updates, learn whether the new series is a reboot or a sequel. Also, find out why Walker Scobell is playing Percy instead of Logan Lerman.
