The Percy Jackson actor has been changed because the latest Disney Plus series reboots the franchise. It has no connection to Fox’s previous two movies.
The author of the Percy Jackson books, Rick Riordan is also involved with the development of the new Disney Plus live-action series. The previous two movies from Fox took up the titles of two Percy Jackson novels that they were supposed to be based on. However, the films made a lot of changes while adapting the source material. Partly as a result of this, they got mixed reviews from the critics and delivered average box office numbers.
But now with Rick Riordan involved as an executive producer after pitching Percy Jackson in a TV series format himself, the novels will be more closely adapted. Hence, we also have a change in the lead actor and the rest of the cast members.
Why has Walker Scobell replaced Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson?
Walker Scobell has replaced Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson because the new series acts as a reboot that stays true to the novels regarding Percy’s age.
In the book series, Percy Jackson starts as a 12-year-old boy who finds out that he is secretly a demigod and the son of the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon. So, Walker Scobell (currently 14 years old) was eligible to be cast because he was in the right age range for the part. Logan Lerman on the other hand is 31, and too old to play Percy Jackson in the rebooted project.
