What was Zac Efron’s The Iron Claw workout routine?

Zac Efron followed an intense workout routine and regimen that involved volume training that was essential for muscle mass increase. The regimen required a gain of 15 pounds of muscle.

Efron’s training for the role of Kevin Von Erich in The Iron Claw reportedly involved the following exercises with three sets of six reps, gradually worked up to five sets of ten reps when the former method became easy, according to his trainer Farren Morgan much like his training for his role in 2017’s Baywatch:

  • Overhead Squats
  • Pull-Ups
  • Back Extensions
  • Weighted Hanging Leg Raises
  • Incline Bench Presses

Aside from this Zac Efron revealed in an interview with The Daily Mail that he also incorporated old-school bodybuilding exercises and Olympic lifting in his workout regimen. He carefully designed his strength, power, and muscle training with the help of his trainer Farren Morgan to enhance his physique more safely. Efron incorporated both these exercises in order to achieve the physical appearances of wrestlers from the 60s.

Zac Efron also revealed that he incorporated rest and recovery days to allow his muscles time to heal and grow.

As for his diet, it consisted of 30-35% protein, 45-60% carbs, and 15-30% fats. So if looking at exact numbers it is reportedly 207-241 grams of protein, 310-413 grams of carbs, and 46-92 grams of fat. However, Efron’s diet was primarily clean eating and he avoided intake of unhealthy fats and sugars in favor of foods with higher nutritional value.

In the same interview, Efron also revealed that he would actually engage in wrestling during the filming of The Iron Claw and that he would do his 15-minute matches on consecutive days and multiple times a day during the week.
