Avengers: Secret Wars: Will Robert Downey Jr. Return to the MCU as Iron Man?

Avengers: Secret Wars is MCU’s most anticipated movie, but could it bring Robert Downey Jr. back as Iron Man along with other Avengers? Here are the latest updates.

Is Robert Downey Jr. returning in Avengers: Secret Wars?

Yes, reports suggest that Robert Downey Jr. is expected to return as Tony Stark/Iron Man in Avengers: Secret Wars.

While the original Tony Stark of Earth-616/199999 sacrificed himself, Marvel could use the Multiverse to bring RDJ back as a variant Tony Stark. Whether he turns out to be a villain or continues his heroic stance remains to be seen. But his return is highly likely as reliable Marvel scooper MyTimeToShineHello recently tweeted about it.

This isn’t the first time MTTSH tweeted about Downey’s return. She presented a similar scoop in late 2022 as well.

Robert Downey Jr.’s return in the biggest MCU crossover of all time was always a given. But he may not be the only one coming back.

Will all the original Avengers return to the MCU?

Yes, all the original Avengers cast members are expected to unite one final time in Avengers: Secret Wars.

It isn’t just speculation, either, as Variety recently reported that Marvel is already considering bringing the original Avengers cast back in an upcoming Avengers movie. While that may or may not happen in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it’s certainly possible for Secret Wars.

After all, Avengers: Secret Wars is supposed to be a crossover event that fulfills the dream of uniting original Avengers cast members with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, New Avengers, and other multiversal heroes. Its roster will be even bigger than Avengers: Endgame.

Hence, it is totally possible for Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner to join Robert Downey Jr. in Secret Wars.
