Marvel fans wish to find out who Quasar is and whether he’ll appear in MCU’s The Marvels. Is he strong enough to defeat Captain Marvel? Here’s all you need to know.
Who is Quasar in the MCU?
In the comics, Wendell Vaughn became Quasar after getting the Quantum bands. However, in the MCU, Phyla-Vell could go on to become Quasar in the future.
Marvel’s Wendell Vaughn is a former Army Lieutenant who joined S.H.I.E.L.D. but couldn’t become a field agent. As S.H.I.E.L.D. got their hands on the powerful Quantum Bands that are supposed to be 8 billion years old, Wendell’s father and physicist, Gilbert Vaughn was assigned to study the bands.
But when an assault team from AIM attacked S.H.I.E.L.D. to claim the bands, Wendell Vaughn wore them and saved them from falling into the wrong hands. He bonded with the bands and realized he was the only one who could control them. Eventually, he came to be called Quasar.
Rumors suggested that he was supposed to appear in The Marvels (via Emergency Awesome), and Kamala Khan’s bracelet would have been connected to his Quantum Bands. But that bit has reportedly been removed after reshoots.
Instead, the MCU seems to be taking a different route to introduce Quasar. Young Phyla-Vell became a part of the new Guardians team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the books, she also took on the mantle of Quasar. Therefore, it would make sense for her to be MCU’s Quasar in the future.
What are Quasar’s powers and abilities?
The Quantum Bands turn Wendell Vaughn’s Quasar into a being of pure quantum energy, providing him with many abilities.
Bonding with the bands, he gains super strength and durability. But he can also:
- Shape his “body” into any shape he can imagine
- Create energy-based weapons such as daggers and other constructs similar to Green Lantern
- Disperse explosive energy attacks
- Absorb energy
- Teleport via quantum jump
- Fly in space
- Prevent himself against mind control
Meanwhile, MCU’s potential Quasar, Phyla-Vell, seemingly possesses energy-based abilities (even before getting the Quantum Bands). However, the full extent of her powers is unknown for now.
Can Quasar beat Captain Marvel in a fight?
Quasar and Captain Marvel are evenly matched. However, with his Quantum Bands, he is deemed to be strong enough to even defeat Captain Marvel in a long-drawn battle.
Captain Marvel is considered to be amongst the strongest Marvel characters. But Eon appointed Quasar as the “Protector of the Universe,” and his Quantum Bands give him an edge over Carol Danvers. But different writers can determine different results for the battle of these two Marvel powerhouses.
However, MCU’s Captain Marvel is certainly stronger than Phyla-Vell, who could become Quasar in the future.
