Supernatural, the dark fantasy drama series focusing on the story of brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, ended its fifteenth season almost three years ago and fans have been wondering whether or not the series was over or if it would get one more season.
Here’s all the Supernatural Season 16 release date information we know so far, and all the details on when it is coming out.
Is there a Supernatural Season 16 release date?
No, Supernatural Season 16 does not have a release date.
This is because the show has ended after a long fifteen-season run. As for why the show ended after fifteen seasons, it was because the cast and crew wanted to end the show on a high note. Jensen Ackles revealed that this was the case in a VegasCon 2019 panel.
The CW producer Mark Pedowitz revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he and The CW were willing to do further seasons of Supernatural if the ratings had held up and if the cast and crew wanted more seasons. However, he also revealed that they did not want to eventually run the fan-favorite show into the ground and that it was best if they went strong with the ending.
Interestingly, according to Eric Kripke, the showrunner of Supernatural for the first five seasons, the show was supposed to end after five seasons. This also explains why he stepped down as showrunner after The CW wanted to do more seasons and was succeeded by Sara Gamble (Seasons 6-7), Jeremy Carver (Seasons 8-11), and Andrew Dabb (Seasons 12-15).
Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Jim Beaver, Ruth Connell, Samantha Smith, Kim Rhoades, and Emily Swallow, among other cast members.
Where is Supernatural Season 16 coming out?
Supernatural Season 16 isn’t confirmed to release on The CW.
The official synopsis for Supernatural reads:
“When they were boys, Sam and Dean Winchester lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. Subsequently, their father raised them to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America … and he taught them how to kill it. Now, the Winchester brothers crisscross the country in their ’67 Chevy Impala, battling every kind of supernatural threat they encounter along the way.”
