Ever since Prey came out on Hulu and became a smash hit for the streamer, fans of Amber Midthunder’s Naru have been wondering whether or not the film has a sequel announced, planned, or in development.
Here’s all the Prey 2 release date information we know so far, and all the details on when it is coming out.
Is there a Prey 2 release date?
At the time of writing, Prey 2 does not have a release date.
This is because Prey 2 is yet to be announced. However, when asked about Prey 2, Dan Trachtenberg the director of the film did offer a vague but seemingly encouraging response in an interview with The Playlist:
“I can’t really say anything about that right now, but I’ll say while we were finishing the movie, we were having really exciting conversations.”
Trachtenberg then added by saying that he, 20th Century Studios, the writers, and the producers of Prey were talking about the crazy things they could do next and that neither he nor the rest of the creative team for Prey stopped thinking about how cool the storylines could be moving forward. Furthermore, in a separate interview with Slashfilm, the filmmaker revealed that he wanted to explore different things with Naru and the rest of her hunting tribe, and when asked if Prey 2 was one of those things, he was not dismissive of the idea.
Thus, Trachtenberg’s comments seem to suggest that a sequel or several sequels to Prey could be made later down the line. This is very likely due to the success of the first Prey film.
Where is Prey 2 coming out?
Prey 2 isn’t confirmed to release on Hulu or in theaters anytime soon.
It will be interesting to see what kind of story could happen in Prey 2 if it is greenlit. Perhaps the sequel could follow Amber Midthunder’s Naru in her new role as the War Chief of her Comanche tribe fighting against three mysterious alien vessels teased in the post-credits scene of the first Prey film.
The official synopsis for Prey reads:
” When danger threatens her camp, the fierce and highly skilled Comanche warrior Naru sets out to protect her people. But the prey she stalks turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal.”
